Q. Is Cub Scouting more of a camping club?

A. No, we do go camping however there are a ton of other things that we do beside go camping. Read further for more information about some of the activities that we do.

Q. My son is in sports; will he have to miss practices or games because of scouts?

A. The Cub Scout program is designed to compliment many other extracurricular activities. Typical time commitment is two or three Den meetings and one Pack meeting per month. Boys who participate in organized sports like soccer, baseball, karate, etc, or academic-based extracurricular activities like music, art, science etc., can be recognized for these activities though Cub Scouts with badges, belt loops and pins which are worn on their uniform.

Q. Can my son join scouts now that he is in 4th grade? He has never done scouts before and I thought he had to start back when he was in 1st grade.

A. He can join any year. Every year is independent and does not rely on another year to join. The only requirement for any scout at any year is to earn their Bobcat Badge. Which consist of simple things like learning the Cub Scout Promise and the Cub Scout Salute. Tiger Cubs (entering first grade or age 7), Cub Scouts - Wolves and Bears (entering second or third grade, or age 8 or 9), Webelos Scouts (entering fourth or fifth grade, or age 10).

 

Q. What does Cub Scouting offer my son? What purpose does it hold?

A. It is an opportunity for your son(s) to learn values while having fun and picking up practical life skills along the way. Cub Scouting offers exciting and challenging activities that promotes character development and physical fitness. We do community service projects, hold ceremonies, play games, and other activities that guide the boys through the Cub Scout core values and give them a sense of personal achievement. Through positive peer group interaction and parental guidance, boys also learn honesty, bravery, and respect.

 

Q. What are the responsibilities of a parent?

  • Provide help and support for the Den and Pack.
  • Work with your son on advancement projects and activities.
  • Attend Den and Pack meetings with your son
  • Provide his Den Leader with a list of advancement awards to be presented at the Pack meeting.
  • Attend and assist with Den and Pack outings.
  • Attend Cub Scout Family campouts with your son.

 

Q. What other activities are available to Cub Scouts and their families?

Pack 684 is very active, providing a rich environment for boys and their families. This years Pack events include:

  • Camping on the USS Lexington
  • Camping at the NASA Space Station in Houston
  • Toys for Tots, accepting donations along side the US Marines
  • Blue & Gold Banquet
  • Pinewood Derby
  • Raingutter Regatta
  • Fall and Spring Campouts
