Cub Scout Pack #827 Bear Creek ~ Houston, Texas

The Purpose of Scouting
Cub Scouting means "doing." Everything in Cub Scouting is designed to have the boys doing things. Activities are used to achieve the aims of Scouting - citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness. Most of these activities happen right in the den and pack. Additional activities include those done at the council level, including camps and Scout Fair.
  • The official purposes of Cub Scouting are to:
  • Positively influence character development and encourage spiritual growth
  • Help boys develop habits and attitudes of good citizenship
  • Encourage good sportsmanship and pride in growing strong in mind and body
  • Improve understanding within the family
  • Strengthen boys' ability to get along with other boys and respect other people
  • Foster a sense of personal achievement by helping boys develop new interests and skills
  • Show how to be helpful and do one's best
  • Provide fun and exciting new things to do
  • Prepare boys to become Boy Scouts
The Cub Scout colors are blue and gold. The blue stands for truth and spirituality, steadfast loyalty, and the sky above. The gold stands for warm sunlight, good cheer, and happiness. Together, they symbolize what Cub Scouting is all about.

The History of Pack 827

Our History
Cub Scout Pack 827 is part of the Sam Houston Area Council of Boy Scouts of America, Texas Skies District. The Houston Council was organized in 1913. The council name was later changed to the Houston Area Council Boy Scouts of America, and in 1938 to its current name, the Sam Houston Area Council Boy Scouts of America. Cub Scout Pack 827 was first chartered through Hunter's Park Home Owners Association in 1977, but is now chartered through Bear Creek United Methodist Church.

Membership

Membership Dues
The Scout membership year coincides with the calendar year. Registration fees are paid in November and cover the period from January 1 to December 31 of the following year. Registration costs $40 and includes: National registration, supplemental medical insurance, subscription to Boys Life magazine and a small stipend for the pack.* All boys from the 1st through the 5th grade are welcome!

*The cost of registration is far less than what is required to run the pack. Therefore, parents and scouts are expected to participate in fundraising events (usually requires 3-4 hours of time, 1 to 2 times/year). Parents and Scouts may also earn extra money to offset the cost of Summer Camp through optional fundraising.

About Us

About Us
Pack 827 has been serving the boys and community of Bear Creek for 30+ years. Our community is a diverse one and our pack reflects the makeup of our community and teaches boys to respect each other, regardless of race or ethnicity. Our charter organization is Bear Creek United Methodist Church; through our relationship with the church our boys have been blessed to have use of various facilities and we have given back in service as well!

Our mission is to instill strong character values in our boys, while giving them a chance to have fun and learn about our world. We also emphasize serving the needs of others, through service projects to our community.
Some events include:
  • singing at a local nursing home and giving the residents ornaments
  • visiting our local fire station to learn fire safety and thank them for their service with gifts of cookies
  • Scouting For Food – a national food drive to help the less fortunate
Scouting is a family affair, and this theme is stressed in our Pack. Parental participation is crucial. The Pack is what we, the parents, make it. Come grow with us and help us make a difference in Bear Creek! Click HERE to see the leadership team for Pack 827.
